Isaac Dogboe announces retirement from boxing after 13-year career

Ghana’s Isaac “The Royal Storm” Dogboe has announced his retirement from professional boxing, ending a 13-year career that saw him become the country’s youngest world champion. He first captured the WBO super-bantamweight title in 2018 at age 23, holding two major world belts across super-bantamweight and featherweight during his peak.

Career highlights and record

Dogboe turned pro in 2013 and built a reputation as one of Africa’s most exciting fighters, with notable wins over former world champions and contenders. He finished with a record of 28-4 (17 KOs), having last fought in March 2024 in a WBC featherweight title eliminator against Nick Ball, which he lost by unanimous decision.

Why he’s hanging up the gloves

In his retirement message, Dogboe said he had “given his all” to the sport and that, after years of sacrifice and a long run at the top, he felt it was the right time to step away and focus on the next chapter of his life. He thanked fans, family, trainers and promoters who supported him from Accra to world-title stages in the US, UK and beyond.

Legacy: trailblazer for Ghanaian boxing

Dogboe’s 2018 breakthrough made him Ghana’s youngest world titlist and helped raise the profile of the sport nationally, inspiring a new generation of fighters. While he will no longer compete, he is expected to remain involved in boxing through mentorship and development work back home.
