Ketu South BECE Best Candidate Urges Students to Take Lessons Seriously

Fifteen-year-old Grace Elorm Atisu, the overall best-performing candidate in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ketu South Municipality, has urged younger students to take their lessons seriously and pay close attention in class.

Grace advised students to avoid using lesson periods to play, stressing that concentration and commitment to their studies could help improve their academic performance.

“Students should focus in class and should not use lesson time to play,” she advised.

A former student of Footprint International School at Laklivikope, Grace emerged as the municipality’s best candidate with an impressive Aggregate 9 out of 4,845 BECE graduates.

She gave the advice during a ceremony organised to support the 300 best BECE graduates in the municipality.

The initiative was funded by the Akonta Foundation, led by Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, Youth and Developmental Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area.

Attention in class key to success

Explaining the secret behind her performance, Grace said she paid close attention to everything her teachers taught during lessons.

She recalled an instance during a Science lesson when her teacher discussed an issue that was not directly related to the main topic.

Although the discussion was outside the main lesson, Grace said she listened carefully and later encountered the same issue in the BECE examination.

Her attentiveness enabled her to answer the question correctly.

She said the experience reinforced the importance of paying attention in class and encouraged younger students to make effective use of lesson periods.

Grace also credited her parents and teachers for the guidance and support that contributed to her academic achievement.

The 15-year-old has gained admission to Achimota Senior High School, where she intends to work harder and build on her BECE performance.

She also expressed appreciation to Torgbui Tenuvi and the Akonta Foundation, promising to make good use of the support provided to her.

Father praises daughter

Grace’s father, Kofi Atisu, expressed pride in his daughter’s achievement, describing her success as remarkable.

He described Grace as a humble and responsible child who listens to her parents and takes her responsibilities seriously.

According to him, whenever Grace received an assignment from school, she made completing it a priority before attending to other requests.

Mr Atisu encouraged children to listen to their parents and teachers, saying discipline, commitment and proper guidance could contribute significantly to academic success.

He also urged parents to provide their children with proper discipline and guidance and correct them when necessary.

Mr Atisu expressed gratitude to Torgbui Tenuvi and the Akonta Foundation for supporting the best BECE graduates.

He said the initiative had helped reduce the financial burden on parents as their children prepared to continue their education at the Senior High School level.
