Keta Port Office Project  Nears Completion as Residents Welcome Progress

Residents of Kedzi in the Keta Municipality have welcomed the rapid progress on the construction of the new Keta Port Office Headquarters, saying the project is already creating jobs and raising hopes for greater economic opportunities.

The project, being undertaken by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), forms part of the broader development of the Keta Port.

Residents say local youth, including labourers, carpenters and masons, have already benefited from employment opportunities created by the construction.

Resident Mawuko Senaki told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the pace and quality of work had renewed optimism among young people in the area.

He urged the GPHA to prioritise qualified residents of Kedzi and neighbouring communities when permanent recruitment begins.

Meanwhile, GPHA Director-General Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono (Rtd) has assured stakeholders that the new Keta Port Headquarters is expected to be fully operational by January 2027.

The project, initially scheduled for completion in June 2026, was delayed after engineers identified deficiencies in the original scope of work. A contract variation has since been approved by the Central Tender Review Board.

The GPHA has also secured the required Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit for the site.

Major General Tanye-Kulono encouraged young people in the area to pursue port-related courses and professional certifications to improve their chances of securing employment when the facility becomes operational.

Residents say they are now looking beyond the construction phase, hoping the Keta Port will bring jobs, investment and new business opportunities to Kedzi and surrounding communities.
