Volta Police engage traders over alleged highway harassment, extortion

The Volta Regional Police Command has launched a fact-finding exercise into allegations of harassment and extortion involving some police personnel stationed along the Aflao-Sogakope Highway.
The move follows complaints from traders operating along the highway, who accused some police officers of allegedly harassing them and demanding money.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, said the Command engaged the affected traders on Monday, August 31, 2026, to hear their concerns and establish the facts surrounding the allegations.
He said the engagement also sought to educate both traders and police personnel on their respective rights, responsibilities and the appropriate procedures for resolving grievances.
According to him, the exercise forms part of the Command’s broader commitment to professional policing, accountability and transparency, while strengthening relations between the Police and the public.
Chief Inspector Gomado said the Command takes allegations of police misconduct seriously and would take appropriate action against any officer found to have acted outside the law or exceeded their mandate.
He urged members of the public to report concerns through the appropriate channels to enable the Police Service to investigate and address them.
Sandcity Radio will continue to follow developments on the issue.
