Kpandai DCE supports 61 top BECE performers with SHS essentials
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kpandai, Haruna Abdul Karim, has supported 61 of the district’s best-performing candidates in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with essential items to aid their transition to Senior High School.
The beneficiaries, selected strictly on merit based on their BECE performance, each received a student mattress, chop box, bucket, blanket and a pack of exercise books. Fifty-three of the 61 beneficiaries are girls, with the DCE noting that all students who obtained aggregates between six and 11 were female.
Presenting the items, Mr Abdul Karim said the initiative was intended to motivate students to take their education seriously and improve academic performance in the district. He pledged to monitor the beneficiaries’ academic progress and provide further support where necessary.
“You are our own children, you are for the nation, you belong to all of us. If we don’t support you it means you cannot get to where we are not to talk of going beyond us,” he said.
The gesture was welcomed by the beneficiaries and their parents, who said the support had eased the financial pressure associated with preparing their children for SHS. One of the beneficiaries, Tony Rose, said some families would have struggled to afford the basic items provided.
“This is more than the whole world to us because for some of us, affording even a bucket is a problem. There are a lot of people who couldn’t go to school because they could not afford some of these things,” Tony Rose said.
A parent, Pastor Yaw Daniel, also expressed appreciation to the DCE, saying the intervention had significantly reduced the financial burden on his family.
“I must say I am very happy and proud of what the DCE has done. I have five children, three are currently in tertiary, one is in SHS. This is the fifth one who is about to go to SHS. It was a burden for me but now more than half of the load has been taken off,” he said.
