Massive turnout recorded at Sométutuza health walk

Hundreds of natives of the Somè Traditional Area, both young and old, have participated in a health walk as part of activities marking the 2026 Sométutuza celebration.
The organisers described the strong turnout as a sign of growing youth interest in the development of the traditional area.
The participants, drawn from communities across the traditional area, began the walk at the Agbozume Market, passing through Nogokpo before returning through parts of Somè and Klikor.
The exercise combined physical fitness with public education and awareness ahead of the grand celebration of Sométutuza scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Some participants commended the organisers for what they described as improved organisation of this year’s health walk. They said the large turnout demonstrated the willingness of natives to support activities that promote unity and community development.
Although health walks have formed part of previous Sométutuza programmes, participants said this year’s event attracted particularly strong participation from both young people and older residents.
They also welcomed the festival’s focus on the youth and issues affecting the development of the Somè Traditional Area, urging organisers to continue creating opportunities for young people to take an active role in community activities and development initiatives.
Torgbui Geli III, a member of the organising team who participated in the walk, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, particularly the involvement of the youth.
He said the participation showed that young people were willing to contribute to development activities when given the opportunity and included in the process.
According to him, the health walk was not only about promoting physical fitness but also served as an opportunity to create awareness about the main Sométutuza celebration on September 26.
Somè Education Fund
Mr Daniel Jerry Sorokpo, Financial Secretary of the Sométutuza programme, said the festival was also intended to draw attention to some of the development challenges confronting the Somè Traditional Area.
He identified water, sanitation, education and youth development as some of the key areas requiring attention.
Mr Sorokpo said this year’s celebration would support the establishment of the Somè Education Fund, which would provide assistance to brilliant but needy students within the traditional area.
He said the fund was expected to help students who might otherwise face difficulties continuing their education.
Mr Sorokpo also disclosed that several dignitaries were expected to attend the grand durbar, which would provide an opportunity for the traditional area to highlight its development concerns.
He said the occasion would, among other things, be used to appeal for the restoration of potable water supply to the area.
Mr Sorokpo therefore called on natives of Somè and well-wishers in Ghana and abroad to participate in the 2026 Sométutuza celebration and support initiatives aimed at addressing the development needs of the traditional area.
